Feathers – Background Information

Hermanus Bird Club

In case any of you are wondering where the photographs used in this series are coming from, they are all my own.  I tried to choose images that will challenge the viewer.  Obviously they need to be sufficiently defined to see the actual feather detail, so I have avoided using anything that is likely to blur too much when enlarged.  I hope you are finding them satisfactory and that, when you see the larger image, any confusion is cleared up.

For the compiler, me, it all looks quite easy, but I know this is not the case and I take my hat off to you all for doing so well.  The most challenging bird so far has been the Western Barn Owl, with only one correct ID, by the Bowmans.  Let’s face it nobody expects to have to ID a bird by looking at the top of its head!
