After a nice family day out to Martin Mere, which was full of birds from the new hide, I had a couple of hours near Marshside this afternoon. First hour was spent watching gulls at the marine lake. Lots of Herrings of various ages, and a single LBB. The highlight was this beast of an adult ssp argentatus.
Love these birds with their darker mantle, heavily streaked head and pale bill. A couple of group shots showing the differences in structure and mantle colour.
A quick look in Nels, but I was distracted by a huge flock of geese I could see towards Crossens. I rushed back to the car and messaged Pete and Mark who I knew were in the area to let them know.
